10+ years into my longer hair journey( started in 2005)and deciding on the perfect length. It's been an amazing Journey! I plan to trim a little (or a lot) at a time to find where my hair still has length,a healthy thicker hemline and a more practical length.I will never have short hair, so please don't worry! Health over length from now on! All trim details, photos & videos will be posted here. Thanks for visiting. JJJ

After thinking about my hair length, I have decided to maintain for a while longer and trim frequently. As of the last year Sept 2017 to Sept 2018 I have trimmed 19.5" the biggest section being 9" and all the rest were .5"/ 1" and a little more.(see trim video in post # 12) Lets face it...age and stress have thinned my hair at the longer lengths, plus some brutal winters where I had massive tangling that was hard to correct. The journey has been very difficult at times!
ππππππ
TODAY my hair is 74.5 and seems to be growing faster and as soon as I trim it is right back!
My plan is to film a self trim video and cut 2-3" and show how easy it is. My hair has thinned so much from classic to floor that if I cut 12" I really don't think it would look much thicker.
Shorter length like classic might be better, but right now that seems too drastic.
I will say that my hair is in great condition. I guess we cant have it all can we! I appreciate what I have and am working with it. People are asking for length photos and videos so let me see what I can come up with. I did show length in a couple recent videos on YouTube- wet to dry and making braid waves.
πHere is the braid wave one:
πand the wet to dry video:
πSo you can see my hair is still VERY long and may seem thick enough.. and I wanted to create these videos before I go shorter. I will maintain my hair around ankle after the trim video I have planned. I am STILL finding out what my best hair length should be. Right now it is VERY LONG and I believe once I trim shorter I will not grow to this length again. Let me take my time getting there!
Here is a photo I posted on facebook and people really liked it. Remember that my LONGEST length EVER was 86". See my facebook pageπ HERE ππ
I have made tons of hair tutorials this summer of 2018 so check out my channel and SUBSCRIBE
Although this was from September 2017, I finally got around to sharing it here. It's NOT public on YouTube and is for this blog ONLY. Many things prevented me from working on this video including my computer crashing, but here it is!
LEAVE ME A COMMENT! (see below)
TODAY my hair is still 73" and I want to maintain it for a while around 68-70"/floor/ankle range to thicken up the ends if possible...My hair really needed this trim and I was very happy with the outcome and say goodbye to my longest, oldest hair.
I have done several small 1"/ 2" and dustings trims since this video and will continue to trim monthly.
Trimming is all part of the growing journey, so for those few people who are upset, please don't be!
So sorry I have not been able to keep up with this blog and updating it more often. Life has been very hectic and the best laid plans seem to be a dream sometimes!(all the time lately) I DID CUT 10" back in Sept of 2017 but didn't post about it here. It was the oldest hair that was dragging the floor and it had to go!
I also did a video of the trim but have not had time to edit the video. Maybe my next post will include the video.Does anyone really want to see it??? 10" with my extreme length is not really much! It was 86" and now 76". I continued to maintain at 76" by doing smaller trims several times in the last few months. For the first time I cut my hair while it was tied off with a small band. I always self trim and it is very easy to do if your hair is long enough. So combined I have cut about 14" since September 2017.Today it still hits the floor enough to step on it and be too long!
I can post an OLDER self trim direction picture here for you to see. This is how I do the smaller trims.
Im planning on cutting back to around knee very soon.Almost like in these photos of the self trim but a bit longer. I hope you can see the photo good enough to read...if not see the bigger photos HERE on my site!
The day I cut the 10" I actually made a video called the easy hand wrap poof bun. I refused to do a video until I did a major trim! I hated the way the ends looked that much! Also, My hair was sort of messy after about 6 takes of the bun so hair is a bit wrinkled! I have also been sleeping with a bun and its caused some breakage which can be seen in the video! Just being honest! I never used to sleep with it in a bun but got in the habit while caring for a sick family member and then just kept doing after the family member passed away.
I wear my hair in the easy hand wrap style often as it is so easy and fast with no twisting or braiding!
I have been dealing with numerous problems in life that has prevented me from focusing on hair projects! Its really sad that I have lost so much time!!
Anyway, here is the video I did on the day of the cut back in September 2017. I hope to get the trim video up at some point and will ONLY be posting it here and not public over on YouTube! Check back.
Please do not try to talk me out of trimming my hair. Im going forward and this is what the blog is all about! Finding MY best hair length.

Comparing Lengths
VIDEO's: KNEE & PAST FLOOR
plus some personal
info.
There is a 4 year
span between these 2 measuring videos and shows 2 very different lengths, knee and
past floor and a 18"length difference.
I trimmed a lot between knee and floor
and struggled with thickness and a solid hemline.
I experienced lots of
frustration heading to ankles and the journey was slower with frequent trimming,
shedding and an inverse V in the hem which I never talked about before, but the
V is now pretty much gone. (I think)
I trimmed 1/4 the
growth for almost 4 years and gained/kept 18". Again I was focusing somewhat on health
over length by trimming but still gained length.
My hair
grows about 6" per year.
Approximate calculations: at 6" per year x 4 yr would
=24" then subtracting the 18" gain would = 6" trimmed during this period or 1/4
of the growth each year.
So in 4 years I
trimmed off 1 years worth of growth.
When I reached
ankles, my focus was not on hair for almost 3 years(due to a family illness) and
instead of trimming it to maintain at ankle, I just let it go knowing I would
trim it someday to whatever length I wanted.
I did not want to
cut it for very personal reasons. I never intended on having floor length
hair or past floor hair as I saw no point in it.. Now with all of this hair, I
can cut a significant amount and STILL have very long hair! Another positive
factor is that my BANGS which I started growing out in 2005 (advice of the late
George Michael and those who he worked with) are now to my calves. I always
wanted my hair to be ONE LENGTH.
Retro 2009 video
of measuring my hair.(not HD) Knee length here (54") and my original goal as I
grew from classic length in 2005. I STILL love this length! Still long but more
manageable. Thicker straight hemline here (but far from perfect.) I continued to
ankles after knee. Why? A personal test of my hair genes and I wanted the journey to continue. The journey between knee and ankles was not fun, but I kept trying because I really try to be patient and not give up.I had to do this once in my life. With help, encouragement and advice from a couple special friends, I made it.
(Below)
My longer hair
being measured and combed in 2014. Being married to someone who loves long hair
is great, but there comes a time when it is even too long for him! (and me) He
supports me with my decision to trim quite a bit. He filmed this video :) This
is one of my favorite videos. Hair about 72". Shows how to get a accurate
measure. This helps when you are charting your growth since you start at
hairline and go over back of your head to the tips of your hair. I can even
easily measure my own hair like this too. Just grab behind your back and grasp
the hair and the tape, drop the tape at hair line, then bring hair to the front
and glide your other hand down the tape measure. It's a lot like my self trim
method.
So here are the 2 similar videos and you can really see a big difference in length and maybe hair quality(ends mainly). I NEED a thicker hemline in the future. Hair that I do not step on, hair that is not dragging the floor and hair that I can wear down more.
I tested my hair to the maximum by just leaving it alone!
Yes it is STILL growing, but not all of my hair will reach the 86" that it is today.
A journey takes many twists and turns. Sometimes you look back and appreciate what you passed and want to go back. I reached the top of the mountain but I can't live here!
When I have time, I want to get a few last photos and maybe a video.
This is taking longer than expected as I have been very busy.
Thank you for reading and following π

As I get ready to trim my hair I wanted to make a poll to see what you think.
I have noticed many different opinions in the last few months from friends and fans and thought it would be fun to make a poll so all can see.
Some people could care less and some are very upset I am trimming my hair. Others understand the difficulties or challenges of extreme length. Some are with me no matter what. What do you think? Lets take a POLL!
Perhaps viewing my recent slideshow will give you an idea of the many lengths I have had.
I tried to post the poll here on my blog but it didn't work right!
Nothing to sign up for to vote and you can view the results right away! The poll is on a safe page over on my long hair site.
I will trim my hair after I make 1 or 2 more videos to record the final longest length. I am trying to do this as soon as possible and move on with the trim.
In the meantime, here is a poll to keep this blog active! Thanks for your participation! (and your patience) My hair is about 84" long and past the floor for anyone wondering. If you rather leave a comment, please feel free to do so below!

After a long absence I am back. 5 months ago I lost someone I was very close too.
I am doing better and I thank everyone who was so kind to leave messages here.
This blog is about finding my best hair length. I have not cut/trimmed my hair yet but now I am ready. I wanted to share some videos of the length so you can get an idea of how long it is and to leave some history behind. I never planned on my hair getting this long, my limit was ankles. It is now about 84" long, way past floor. To be perfectly honest, these videos are from last year and I never had the time or desire to edit and post them until now.
So as I get back into posting here, lets start by seeing the length so I can start my reverse journey. Although my hair is slightly longer than in these videos it will show you a good example. Honestly, its just too long. I never wear it down and I can't stand stepping on it.
It needs a good trim. Long hair is not all about "the longest"and I will be happier when it is at a more manageable and practical length. So a little at a time (possibly months between trims) I will be finding my best length and sharing thoughts about it through this blog including photo's and videos.
I will still have long hair and I never plan on cutting it short. It's been an amazing journey to this length. I have learned so much and had so much fun sharing and meeting others with long hair interest.
Health over length now! Are you with me?
Here is my hair curled. It just shows up better on video when it is curled!
And one making a ponytail with the curls when they loosened up later in the day.
Thank you for your patience!

It's been almost 6 months since I posted.
All
of my plans have been put on hold for now due to a family illness. I
have been the main caretaker and have not had the right time to do my
trim. I want to do it with a happy state of mind, clear thinking and not
regret anything.
I also wanted to do some before videos and
honestly, I just lost the drive to do hair related projects during such a
difficult time in my life. I did get a few photos.
I hope anyone following this blog will understand the reasons for the pause. I fully intended on posting every month. My hair is probably
about 84-85" right now.I honestly quit measuring it for now. It is longer than I ever imagined it would ever be. When I reached
ankle length my family member began their downward journey. Other issues
in my life also zapped my drive. Stress caused a major shedding phase
too.My hair has been surviving things I have put it through. Having to
jump up in the middle of the night to care for the ill several times, being away from
home has made me start wearing my hair up in a bun to sleep, which I
really hate to do. Combing, brushing and washing became a luxury. I never imagined my life could change so much so fast. Knots
were the enemy from hardly combing it or having the patience to care for it. So I have left my hair alone and
not been thinking about it much. That is how to get your hair long in
the first place right?
I also was afraid to cut it fearing it would be unlucky during this hard time. I needed all the positive forces I could keep!
My hair journey has been long. When the time is right I plan to trim.
For now please enjoy what I have posted over the last 10 years online.
